The book is filled with rich historical facts starting with the bloody struggles between the Unionists and the Republicans in northern Ireland and culminating in the disarmament of the IRA. While much of the world has viewed the IRA as the sole instigator of years of vicious terrorism, Llywelyn proves through numerous historical facts that the British government along with the Unionists in the north were equally guilty of constant and numerous crimes.

A thoroughly enjoyable story of love, history, political intrigue, and the mystery surrounding Michael Collins death. The characters are well developed and there is constant suspense throughout the book. Points off for the soap-opera-esque ongoing, unfulfilled sexual tension between the main characters (which looks to continue in the sequels, for reason which I think I will pass on them).

Llywelyn continues her tale from her earlier book, 1916, following the life of journalist Henry Mooney at a time of great conflict in Ireland. The author brings the time and characters to life, making the reader part of the rebellion. Highly recommended.
